Actual Costs (to increase each year):

The actual total cost for a 2″ fire hydrant meter is $2,036.05; the actual cost of the meter will increase each year.  The total cost includes the utility deposit of $1,595.81 and a meter installation cost of $440.24.  The minimum monthly charge is $430.00 for up to 53,750 gallons.  The charge for gallons in excess of the minimum gallons will be charged based on the commercial water rates for those tiers.

Illegal Connection Fees:

Any contractor, customer, builder, or person found connected to the water system without the city’s approval shall be considered an illegal connection and subject to a $500 illegal connection fee.  This includes if the contractor/customer moves the meter from the location where the Utilities staff installed it.

Upon request, the fire hydrant meter can be relocated only by Utilities staff after the contractor/customer submits a relocation form for the new location and provides a new time frame.  Once approved, payment of all applicable fees is required prior to relocating the fire hydrant meter.

Loss, damage, and payment:

The fire hydrant meter is the responsibility of the contractor/customer who will be held responsible for charges and fees if the meter is lost, stolen, or damaged.  Meters reported stolen must be accompanied by a Police Report.  Deposits for lost or stolen meters will be forfeited for the meter cost and estimated consumption charges will be billed.  Damages to the meter or backflow assembly will also be deducted from the deposit.
